CivicActions is a dedicated, fun-loving team, looking for some talented folks to help us bring revolutionary digital services to government agencies and the people they serve.
For this role, we're looking for someone with experience in backend web development using Java, writing web applications using a test-driven deployment approach, and using relational and non-relational database systems. You should also be comfortable working in an agile and lean environment to routinely deploy changes.
For this position, a minimum of 2 years developing and deploying backend web applications in an agile environment is required. This role works within our agile process as an engineering resource for the scrum team with our clients in the public sector.
The current opening for this position requires on-site interactions with clients and users in Sacramento, California; therefore we are seeking candidates who reside in Sacramento or are willing to commute on a daily or weekly basis.

For this position, you MUST have:
Minimum of 1 - 2 years of full time experience with delivery of complex digital projects in an agile environment.
Minimum of 2 years of full time experience in AT LEAST ONE (ideally more) of the following:
Writing the back-ends of modern open-source web applications
Developing and consuming web-based, RESTful APIs
Automated unit, integration, and acceptance testing
Load and performance testing
Enterprise user authentication tools
Relational and non-relational database systems
Handling large data sets and scaling their storage
Scalable search technology

We're looking for someone with experience in the following:
Backend web development using Java
Authoring developer-friendly documentation (e.g., API documentation, deployment operations)
Developing and Consuming web-based, RESTful APIs with the Dropwizard Java framework
Communicating technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
Writing automated unit, integration, browser, accessibility, acceptance, load, and performance tests (e.g. JUnit, JMeter, Selenium, Pa11y)
Using and working in team environments that use agile methodologies (e.g., Scrum, Kanban, Lean)
Use of version control systems, specifically Git and GitHub
Quickly researching and learning new programming tools and techniques
Writing and working with open source solutions and community
Knowledge of enterprise user authentication tools
Handling and scaling the storage of large data sets, scalable search technology
Desired Skill Set
Intense curiosity about people and human interactions
Ability to appreciate and communicate with both introverts and extroverts
Desire to become an extraordinary communicator by searching inside yourself
Ability to see patterns and identify unstated needs
Experience with GitHub, Pivotal Tracker, Slack are preferred
Configuring JasperReports to render XML documents into PDF
